The Asian hornet

Why are Asian Hornets bad news for the UK?

Except for the fact their stings are potentially lethal to humans? Well...

  • They literally live on honey bees, eating up to 50 a day!
  • Hate wasps? These things are MUCH bigger!
  • Hate wasps? These things are more territorial, and even less behaved!
  • And if you think their territorial just to humans, they target the honeybees too!
  • Highly intrusive species and hard to control once they take nest!

What should you look out for?

Asian hornets are much larger than wasps and bumblebees, and have some specific attributes that help make it easier to spot them.

  • Much larger than your average wasp or honeybee
  • Yellow Socks on every leg
  • Mostly black with a little bit of yellow
  • one orange band toward the rear
