If you're suffering from condensation and the resulting mold, perhaps you have an extractor but it doesn't do an awful lot, or maybe you don't have an extractor fan at all.. You really should consider the sort of belts and braces extractor fan system we regularly install for our clients in and around Medway & Maidstone.

The fan itself is probably one of the best residential extractor fans available on the market, when other factors such as cost, ducting size, space, air speed, noise, and all the rest of it is taken into account. If you have loft space above your bathroom, you categorically want one of these working to reduce that condensation by pulling all that moisture laden air out of the property before it has the chance to stagnate and land on cold walls and ceilings.

This was a property in Walderslade Woods, Medway, where we had many a job to do: We replaced several motion sensor security lights, added a brand new courtesy light at the front door, we replaced a kitchen undercabinet light, and changed a light switch in the living room.

But the core, main issue for our clients was the condensation and the fact that some of their downlights were no longer working.

Main causes of Condensation & Mold

Condensation and the resulting mold, by and large, is probably a lifestyle-caused problem (unless there's a genuine water ingress issue caused by a leak or rising damp). Us humans are creatures of habit and convenience, and by far the easiest way of compensating for our lifestyles is by installing active ventilation systems.

By lifestyle, I typically mean that usual moisture creating day to day activities, such as cooking, showering, drying clothes, even breathing! builds up moisture content in the air. In the summer we don't always notice it - for one it's literally warm, so there's no cold surfaces such as cold windows, walls and ceilings. And secondly, We are more likely to have our windows wide open in the summer! We are ventilating the house without even realising it!

But what happens when it starts getting chilly? We start closing all our windows and doors, and start to hibernate to keep warm. We take our clothes outside to dry less often! instead we dry them indoors, and all that moisture is evaporated into the air inside our homes! if we don't try to move this moisture-laden air out of our properties, it starts to stagnate and cause all sorts of issues - mainly in the form of heavy condensation and the black mold that generally follows it.

The Solution to Condensation and Mould: Extractor Fans and Ventilation systems

So what can we do? By far, the easiest way of compensating for our lifestyles is by introducing ventilation into the property - you could well do this by opening all the windows and letting fresh air in, but who want's to do that when it's 2 degrees outside in the middle of winter?

The next best solution is by drawing moisture laden air out of the property - preferably at the source of the moisture (typically kitchens when cooking and bathrooms when washing), or introducing fresh air into the house, and letting it push the moisture laden air out of the house naturally.
