This client came to us explaining that they had issues with their current extractor fan.
It seemed to no longer work, and they had water falling through their ceiling extractor vent in the bathroom.
They are a busy family of 4, with two adult children who just LOVE their hot & steamy showers. This is an old town house of a style found up and down the UK, and certainly throughout Kent. Aside from their generally infamous leaky roofs, they tend to fall foul of poor insulation, and their bathrooms tend to have multiple external walls, and sometimes a flat roof, too!
These bathrooms are so prone to condensation, and this particular bathroom is not an exception. This family were certainly suffering from the effects of unrelenting condensation issues.
We assessed the installation they already had, and decided we could keep some parts - notably the internal and external vents, and the fan itself was of a reasonable size.
We did have a few engineering challenges, we had quite a height to gain in the loft, more than we'd normally design for. We also had a fairly long duct run to install. And we absolutely wanted to make sure this family won't have condensation problems again, so we opted to supply our own favourite extractor fan - and reuse the current one and deploy it as a booster.
This system can be controlled upon switch on of the bathroom lights, switched into an override mode and left on permanently over the winter months, and put into boost most - bringing the second fan into operation.
We returned a few weeks later for the finishing touches. Safe to say we were very pleased with the feedback, and a glowing Google review which followed!
