This particular board was prompted by an elderly lady who had an impromptu visit from the local Fire and Rescue Service, who told her she may have far more extension leads than what they would seem acceptable. The original enquiry was simply for more sockets placed throughout the bungalow.
The work itself seemed quite straightforward, the standard sort of work we carry out on a regular basis.
Further sockets to alleviate a fan heater being plugged in via an extension lead
More sockets to replace a rather quite long (5m+?) extension lead that she was using for a standing lamp
More sockets to alleviate a rather eye opening microwave - kettle - toaster all via an extension block arrangement
Some sockets placed higher than usual for the added convenience and future proofing for poor mobility
I did have an incline, however, looking at the electrical parts in the property, and with the conversation we had with this customer:-
The board would probably want upgrading to give her that much needed RCD protection. She would do very well from our normally-advised RCBO loaded boards, which gives you a lot more freedom with how much of your property is left working when one part decides to start breaking on you.
She also took really well to the idea that if this property hasn't been touched since she bought it as a new build - some 50 years ago - that it would likely benefit an awful lot from a full once over health check on the electrics.
